Take Off

As we take off I start a new chapter, a new adventure and a new opportunity for just about anything. In the corner of my eye I see the vanishing sunset and far behind me I hear the voices of young children, loud and piercing as if their lives depended on the earth shattering sounds. I block them out though with the comforting tunes of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and The Blow. With comfort comes annoyance too, the annoyance of travel. Long lines, countless hours of waiting and claustrophobia from the rows upon rows of crowed seats. The stuffy air is intoxicating and the combined smells of the passengers becomes unbearable, but with all this I seem to keep coming back. Back for more stories, more memories and the thrill of the unknown discovered. A life less ordinary if you will. I strive for that most days I live. Waking up and not knowing what could be or will be is a freeing feeling. It’s harder to accomplish this in your daily life. With so many rituals, necessary appointments and places you MUST be, it’s difficult to steer off the beaten path and make a new, but with travel it’s a new path every moment. A turn down the wrong street could create a situation never dreamed. I’m heading to Mexico now. (The 12th country I’ve been to in the span of my young life). This trip though is different from the rest. All have had much planning, notice and warranted a reason for my departure. The only thoughts for this adventure is see the city, reconnect with a long time friend and photograph EVERYTHING. And tomorrow morning I will do just that. I will head out into a city I know very little about and hopefully learn all there is to know.
